The advanced course is for the more experienced powerboater.
This two-day course involves a night passage and tests
the skills needed to operate a powerboat in more testing
conditions. We only run this course September to April.
This course is used by most Professional organisations
such as the RNLI, Coastguard, Military and the Police as
their standard for driving fast planning boats
A good level of boating & Navigation
experience, communication and team leadership is required
for you to be successful in this course.

• Navigation
• Fuel and engine checks
• Effect of waves and rougher conditions
• Power trim and trim tabs
• Berthing in different situations
• Lee Shore Manoeuvring
• Advanced Handling
• Search & Rescue Patterns/Procedures
• Use of GPS in high-speed navigation and pilotage by Night
Pre Requisites:
Day Skipper Theory
VHF Radio (inc DSC)
1st Aid Certificate (Doesn’t have to be RYA)
Intermediate Powerboat Certificate
At least 2 years practical driving of planning boats
Duration: 2 days (10.00am – Late day 1, 10.00 – Late
Aftrenoon day 2)
Minimum age: 17
Equipment Needed: Wellingtons/Old Trainers,
Hat & Gloves,
Waterproofs, head torch. We provide life jackets and can
provide lightweight waterproofs if required.
